Report from Peru |

Ranrapalca. Our route goes up the slopes just hidden by the ridge on the left skyline. |
The moon over Huaraz, our base of operations for trips into the mountains. |
|
One of the Peruvians we met along the way to base camp. The kids are mostly beautiful and curious. |
For the hike to base camp we hired burros. This one suffers under the load of the pig. |
|
Some goofballs doing yoga in base camp. Get ready for the hills however suits you, I guess. |
Sunset over Tocllaraju, just over base camp. I did this peak last time I was here, our route followed the ridge on the left skyline |
|
Memorial near the refugio on the way to high camp. |
Sunset over our high camp at 17K feet. |
|
Our intended route follows this ridge. It turned out to be longer and harder than expected, so we climbed the slopes behind the ridge and cut through the rock band following the right-most snow field. |
Robbie climbing the slopes nearing the rock band. This part of the route was 300 meters of steep (60 degree+) snow. |
|
Robbie climbing through the rock band. Two hard pitches of mixed climbing led to the summit ridge. |
The summit ridge. We traversed below the ridge, climbed the schrund on the right side of the picture to the pointed summit in the background. |
|
Me at the summit at 20,216 feet. |
A very bitter and tired Ed on the descent. |
|
A quality partner is a good thing. |
Sunset from high camp. |
