Report from Peru #2

Well, back safe in the U.S. All in it was a fantastic trip. We got another 20K foot peak done on Chopicalqui, in good, fast style. For our last trip out we tried to get up Alpamayo, but the weather and avalanche danger were too severe. Here are another round of pics for your enjoyment and trip reports from Chopicalqui and Alpamayo.

Chopicalqui, our next peak. The route we did (the Southwest Ridge) goes up the right skyline.

Luxurious accomodations at high camp. It was 15 below that night but we were moving light and fast without a tent. Brrrr.

Huascaran from the summit of Chopicalqui. The col where the two parties died this year is between the peaks in the foreground and background.

Me on the summit. It was an amazing morning to be up high.

View from the summit.

Summit Sunrise.

Another view from the top of the world.

The trek up the Santa Cruz valley towards Alpamayo.

The face to the right of Alpamayo. As we hiked up to the col camp we heard avalanches ripping down the mountian, including a big one down the couloir system just left of the center of the face.

Weather rolling into and off the mountains.

Artesanraju from the Santa Cruz side. Recognizable as the Paramount Pictures mountain.
